Hammer named Big 12 Men’s Golfer of the Month

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Men's Golf junior Cole Hammer was named the Big 12 Men's Golfer of the Month for April, the league office announced Wednesday. It is the first time Hammer has earned the honor in his career, and the first time a Longhorn has done so since Doug Ghim in Oct. 2017.

Hammer posted top-10 finishes in all three tournaments he competed in during the month of April, capped by winning individual medalist honors at the Big 12 Championship. In addition, he also finished tied for ninth at the Calusa Cup in Naples, Fla. and tied for sixth at The Aggie Invitational in College Station, Texas. Hammer improved his finish in each tournament, and has now posted five top-10s this season overall. His streak of three-straight top-10s is his longest since a four-tournament stretch during his freshman campaign.

The Houston native shot par-or-better in six of his 10 competitive rounds in April, including a 5-under 65 and a 3-under 67 over the final two rounds of the Big 12 Championship at Prairie Dunes. His 5-under 65 was his best round of the season to date, and just one shot off his collegiate-low score that she shot as a freshman in 2018-19.

Hammer's selection as Big 12 Men's Golfer of the Month marks the 19th time a Longhorn has received the monthly honor from the conference since its inception in the 2002-03 season.
