Junior second baseman becomes the third Texas player to earn at least three NFCA All-American nods
AUSTIN, Texas – Following another outstanding campaign that saw her lead the Longhorns in numerous offensive categories, No. 11/13 Texas softball second baseman Janae Jefferson has been selected as a third team National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American according to a Wednesday release from the Association.
In the process, Jefferson becomes just the third Texas player to earn at least three NFCA All-American nods during her career. The Humble, Texas, native joins former Longhorns pitching standouts Cat Osterman (four selections – 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006) and Blaire Luna (three selections – 2010, 2011, 2013) in the exclusive club.
Over the history of the Texas softball program, the Longhorns have had 12 total players earn 23 combined all-time NFCA All-America selections.
A second team NFCA All-Central Region choice and a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 Conference First Team, Jefferson continued her All-American-level of play right through the 2021 campaign. The Top 25 finalist for the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year award led Texas in batting average (.446), hits (75), on-base percentage (.495) and steals (14), while rating second in runs scored (49) and third in total bases (100). Back on May 9 at Baylor, she etched her name in the UT record book by breaking former Longhorns standout Brejae Washington's career mark with her 255th hit. Jefferson reached base safely in 47-of-51 games played, led Texas with 25 multi-hit efforts, registered four separate hitting streaks of at least seven games during the season and blasted two of her career-high five total HR's during a win at Iowa State (April 10.).
