Monday’s release marks the fifth-straight appearance for the Track and Field star this season.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Track and Field's Tara Davis was one of 10 women selected to The Bowerman Women's Watch List on Monday. It is the fifth-straight appearance for Davis since winning the NCAA Indoor long jump title back in March.
Davis is one of four Longhorns to appear on the watch list at least once this season, being joined by teammates Julien Alfred, Chanel Brissett and Tripp Piperi. She is the ninth Texas woman to reach the watch list since the award's inception, a tally that is tied with Arkansas for the third-most by any program.
The Agoura Hills, Calif. native is coming off an impressive sweep of the Big 12 long jump and 100-meter hurdles at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in Manhattan, Kan. and an NCAA Championship qualifying performance in the long jump at the West Preliminary in College Station, Texas, over the past month.
Davis first won the long jump title at the Big 12 Championships, doing so with just one attempt. That jump resulted in a mark of 6.97m/22-10.5, which was a meet and facility record, as well as tied for third-best in collegiate history. It is the third time this season Davis has hit that exact mark, and she now owns four of the top six jumps on collegiate record. She passed through her final five jumps after hitting the mark on her opening attempt.
Davis followed up her jumps crown by winning the 100-meter hurdles. She clocked 12.90 in the Saturday prelims to finish second-fastest in the field behind only her teammate Chanel Brissett, and then ran a winning time of 13.01 under wet and rainy conditions on Sunday. Her effort placed her alongside Kynnedy Flannel as Texas women to win double individual gold at the Big 12 meet this year.
In addition to being a regular on The Bowerman Women's Watch List, Davis has been named the USTFCCCA National Athlete on two occasions this season and been named the Big 12 Athlete of the Week a league record-tying three times in 2021.
The Bowerman, first awarded in 2009, is presented annually by the USTFCCCA to the year's most outstanding collegiate male and female student-athlete (indoor and outdoor combined). Davis will look to join 2016 recipient Courtney Okolo as Longhorns to win the prestigious award.
The Bowerman Watch List represents the consensus among members of The Bowerman Watch List Committee in regard to who is currently on their radar for consideration to win this year's award. These student-athletes may or may not have competed yet this year, but based on past credentials have the attention of the committee.
