Volleyball picked No. 1 in AVCA preseason coaches’ poll

After finishing as the NCAA runner-up last season, the Longhorns begin this season in the top spot of the national rankings.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Volleyball has been picked No. 1 in the 2021 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Texas, who was picked first in the Big 12 Coaches' Poll, is one of two Big 12 teams in the top-25 as Baylor came in at No. 10. Both Kansas State and Kansas are also receiving votes. Texas has five other opponents ranked in the preseason poll, No. 7 Minnesota, No. 20 San Diego, No. 21 Stanford, No. 23 Rice and No. 25 Notre Dame. Texas State and Arizona are also receiving votes.
The Longhorns return five players who earned All-American recognition last season and were picked to the Preseason All-Big 12 team this year. Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year Logan Eggleston leads the way, joined by fellow All-Americans Brionne Butler, Jhenna Gabriel, Skylar Fields and Asjia O'Neal.
Texas will get its first test against outside opposition, playing LSU in Baton Rouge, on Saturday, August 21 at 10 a.m. The Longhorns open the season against San Diego on August 27 at Gregory Gymnasium.
