No. 1 Volleyball holds off No. 10 Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – No. 1 Texas Volleyball battled to a 3-1 win over No. 10 Minnesota at Maturi Pavilion on Wednesday night. The Longhorns improved to 3-0 on the season with their first road win.
Logan Eggleston led Texas with 17 kills, adding 12 digs and five blocks to produce here second double-double of the season. Skylar Fields finished with 14 kills and three blocks. Molly Phillips had a career high 13 kills while hitting .458 during the match.
Brionne Butler added nine kills and five blocks and Asjia O'Neal had a team-high six blocks and three kills.
Jhenna Gabriel finished with 45 assists and added nine digs, one kill, one block and one service ace. Nalani Iosia led Texas with 24 digs and also added four assists. Melanie Parra had 11 digs and a team-high four aces.
Texas took a 2-0 lead to start the first set before Minnesota rattled off six-straight points. The Longhorns were down big on multiple occasions in the set but battled back to keep it close. Trailing 21-13, the Longhorns went on a 10-2 run to tie the set up 23-23 before going on to win it 26-24.
In the second set, the Longhorns started well and held a 9-5 lead before Minnesota tied it up 11-11. The set remained extremely tight the rest of the way before Texas ended it with a 4-0 run to close it 25-21. Butler had five kills in the set to lead the Longhorns.
Minnesota came out strong in the third set and led it wire-to-wire to send the match to a fourth set.
The fourth set proved to be another extremely tight one, with the teams sitting tied 20-20 before Texas outscored the Golden Gophers 5-2 to win the match.
Texas returns home to Gregory Gymnasium, hosting No. 20 Stanford on Sunday at 1 p.m.
