No. 1 Volleyball sweeps West Virginia

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1 Texas Volleyball opened up Big 12 Conference play with an emphatic 3-0 sweep of West Virginia, 25-21, 25-11, 25-19, on Thursday at Gregory Gymnasium.
The Longhorns hit an incredible .420 in the match and held the Mountaineers to a .135 hitting percentage.
Skylar Fields led Texas with 16 kills and hit .593 in the match, while Logan Eggleston finished with 12 kills, nine digs, one ace and two blocks.
Brionne Butler had a strong night in the middle, finishing with five blocks and six kills. Molly Phillips also added five kills and four blocks.
Jhenna Gabriel dished out 30 assists and had three digs, while Nalani Iosia had nine digs and five assists. Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torres added five assists, one dig and one block in her third match of the season.
Texas finished the first set on an 11-2 run to rally from down 19-14 and go up 1-0. Eggleston led the way for the Longhorns with seven kills in the first set, including five of the last 11 points.
The Longhorns carried the momentum from the end of the first set into the second, going up 14-4 and putting together a combined 25-6 scoring run. Texas never cooled down in the set and cruised to a 25-11 win.
The final set was pretty closer throughout, before Texas pulled away late to put the match away.
Texas and West Virginia will meet again on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Gregory Gym.
