Longhorns on the Run:
• Sophomore Isaac Alonzo continued his breakout season in his hometown of Lubbock, Texas at the Big 12 Championships. Alonzo finished third and led the Longhorns to a third-place finish. The All-Big 12 member heads into Friday's race having only ran the 10K once during the cross country season at 31:42.1.
• Haftu Knight will try and defend his NCAA 2021 South Central title after leading Texas to a first-place finish last year with his time of 30:10.4. Knight's personal-best time in the 10K is 29:47.8. He has competed in all but one race this season.
• Beth Ramos and Monica Hebner will the lead the women in the 6K after the duo finished in the top-25 at the Big 12 conference meet. Ramos led the Longhorns last season in this race with a seventh-place finish and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships where she competed as an individual.
How it Works:
• The top-two placing teams at each of the nine regional locations will receive an automatic bid to the national championships on November 19 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
• Another 13 at-large teams will be selected by the NCAA Division I Cross Country Subcommittee. The top four finishers at each region automatically qualify individually while two additional individuals are determined by the committee.
• The men earned a team bid in 2021 after defeating Arkansas for the No. 1 finish and qualified for nationals as a team for the fifth-straight season. Ramos was the lone competitor for the Texas women for the last two seasons.
