Harris wins 1-meter at Texas Diving Invitational

Nick Harris and Noah Duperre finished 1-2 on the men’s 1-meter; Hailey Hernandez placed third on the women’s 3-meter.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas diving earned a trio of top-three results on the second on day two of competition at the Texas Diving Invitational on Thursday at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Nick Harris won the men's 1-meter springboard and Noah Duperre placed second, while Hailey Hernandez took home third on the women's 3-meter springboard.
Harris totaled 396.70 points to claim his second win and fourth top-3 result on the 1-meter this season. After finishing second in the prelims with 358.35 points, the freshman was in control throughout much of the final, taking the lead following a huge second-dive score of 74.40 and maintaining the top spot through the remainder of the final.
Duperre placed second with 372.55 points, his third top-2 finish this season on 1-meter. He advanced to the final after scoring 345.35 points in the prelim.
Brendan McCourt narrowly missed advancing to the final, placing ninth in the prelims with 323.60 points, 0.2 points behind the eighth-place finisher. Manuel Borowski scored 303.10 points in the prelim, while Andrew Gawin-Parigini collected 291.95 points.
On the women's side, Hernandez earned her second-straight third-place result on the 3-meter with 346.00 points. She advanced to the final after tallying the third-highest score in the prelims of 333.15 points. Arizona's Delaney Schnell won with 372.70 points and LSU's Chiara Pellacani took second with 366.15. Bridget O'Neil placed fourth in the final with 342.55 points.
In the prelims, Janie Boyle scored 303.15 points to finish 10th, while Jordan Skilken netted 300.80 points and Sarah Carruthers collected 278.65.
Day one of the invite featured a team scored diving competition, believed to be the first in NCAA history. Texas took the top spots in both the men's and women's contests, netting 40 points in each, to claim the overall title with 80 points.
"It's really exciting that The University of Texas can host what we believe is the first-ever NCAA team event for men's and women's diving," said Texas head diving coach Matt Scoggin. "It's very exciting and we're hoping to be able to get it into the NCAA's in the near future."
LSU took second in the overall competition with 66 points, earning 34 points via a second-place finish in the women's competition and 32 points for placing third in the men's contest. Utah placed third in the overall scoring with 62 points after the women took third for 32 points and the men fourth to earn 3 points.
The Longhorns return to action on Friday, Nov. 18 with the women competing on the 1-meter springboard and the men on the 3-meter springboard. Prelims will get underway for the women's 1m at 10 a.m. and the men's 3m at 11:45 a.m. The women's 1m final is slated to start at 5 p.m. and the men's 3m final will follow at 6:30 p.m.
