No. 11 Women’s Golf in fifth after first two rounds at Lamkin Invitational

Bentley Cotton fired a two-under-par 142 [72, 70] and is tied for third through 36 holes
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. — Play was suspended due to darkness on Monday evening at the Lamkin Invitational, but No. 11 Texas was one of four teams able to complete the 36-holes scheduled for day one. The Longhorns carded a 10-over-par 586 (297, 289) to stand in fifth place through the tournament's first two rounds. About half of the field was able to finish both rounds, while the remaining players will complete their last few holes of round two when action resumes for the third and final round on Tuesday. Texas will tee off for its final 18 holes at 10 a.m. CT.
Sophomore Bentley Cotton led the way for the Longhorns through the opening two rounds, registering a 72 in round one and 70 in round two for a two-under-par 142 through 36 holes. That was good for a third-place tie entering the final day of competition.
Junior Sophie Guo posted the lowest score for Texas on the day, tallying a three-under-par 69 in the opening round. Guo began by recording birdies in three out of her first four holes. She would go on to register two more birdies on holes 10 and 11 to help bring her within one stroke of the round one leader, Arizona State's Ashley Menne (four-under-par 68). At the end of the first round, Texas stood at eighth place (nine-over-par 297) in the overall team standings, while Guo tied for third and Cotton tied for 15th in the individual standings.
During the second round, Cotton carded a bogey-free round that included back-to-back birdies on holes eight and nine. She would finish her second round shooting a two-under-par 70. Senior Sara Kouskova also posted a strong second round, firing a one-under-par 71 with birdies on holes two, four and eight.
Kouscova, freshman Bohyun Park, and Guo are tied for 34th with scores of 151 through 36 holes, while sophomore Ashleigh Park is tied for 45th at 153.
The 14-team field at the Lamkin Invitational includes 10 teams that are ranked in the latest Division 1 WGCA Coaches Poll that was released on Nov. 19, 2021, including No. 1 Stanford, No. 4 Oregon, No. 11 Texas, No. 13 San Jose State, No. 14 UCLA, No. 15 Arizona, No. 20 USC, No. 21 Arizona State and No. 23 Ole Miss.

- Sophomore Bentley Cotton tallied a two-under-par 142 [72-70] and is tied for third place. Cotton registered five birdies (No. 2, par-3; No. 8, par-4; No. 10, par-4; No. 14, par-3; No. 18, par-5) during the first round. Cotton's even-par round of 72 and two-under-par 70 gives her a total of four rounds of par or better on the season. During the second round, Cotton registered two birdies (No. 8, par-4; No. 9, par-5).
- Junior Sophie Guo posted a seven-over-par 151 [69-82] and is tied for 34th place in the individual standings. Guo's opening round of three-under-par 69 ties her low round on the season. To start off the first round, Guo birdied three of her first four holes (No. 4, par-4; No. 5, par-3; No. 7, par-4). Guo would go on to register two more birdies (No. 10, par-4; No. 13, par-4) during her opening round.
- Senior Sara Kouskova also carded a seven-over-par 151 [80-71] and is tied for 34th. Kouskova recorded an eagle (No. 1, par-4) and four birdies (No. 3, par-5; No. 7 par-4; No. 8, par-4; No. 10, par-4) during the opening round. On the second round, Kouskova registered three birdies (No. 2, par-3; No. 4, par-4; No. 8, par-4).
- Freshman Bohyun Park was the final Longhorn to finish with a seven-over-par 151 [78-73] and is tied for 34th place.
- Sophomore Ashleigh Park fired a nine-over-par 153 [78-75] in her season debut and is tied for 45th. Park tallied three birdies (No. 3, par-5; No. 9, par-5; No. 18, par 5) in her first round, while adding on an additional three birdies (No. 5, par-3; No.6 par-4; No.16, par-3) in her second round.
