Floréal and Watson Earn South Central Region Awards

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Track and Field head coach Edrick Floréal and Pete Watson earned USTFCCCA South Central Region awards on Thursday.
Floréal was named the 2022 Men's and Women's South Central Region Coach of the Year after the men's program earned its first ever NCAA team title and the women finished as the runner up at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships. In his fourth season with the Longhorns, Floréal's program earned 35 USTFCCCA All-America Honors from his 26 entries.
The men's squad scored in seven of the 10 event entries, while the women scored in 12 of the 16 championship entries.
Floréal was also named the Big 12 Men's and Women's Coach of the Year for the second-straight season after both programs swept the conference meet for the second season in a row.
Also in his fourth season with the Longhorns, Watson was named the South Central Men's Assistant Coach of the Year after an impressive outing by his distance squad on the biggest stage of the season. The men's DMR team of Cruz Gomez, Willington Wright, Crayton Carrozza and Yaseen Abdalla were crowned champions of the DMR with a time of 9:25.20. It's only the second time in school history the Longhorns won the event at NCAAs.
After a historic season, Jonathan Jones recorded the fastest-ever 600y time at the Big 12 Championships and finished as the runner-up at the NCAA meet in the 800m, while Yusuf Bizimana finished fourth.
