Men’s Swimming and Diving places second at NCAA Championships

Texas won the 400 free relay National Championship to close out the meet.
ATLANTA – Texas Men's Swimming and Diving finished as the national runner-up at the 2022 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at the McAuley Aquatic Center on Saturday. The Longhorns have finished in the top-two at each of the last eight NCAA Championships. Now in his 44th season as head coach, Eddie Reese recorded his 13th NCAA runner-up finish, his 28th top-two national showing and 35th top-three result.
The Longhorns concluded the four-day national meet with 436.5 points, trailing only NCAA Champion California (487.5), while posting a 62.5-point margin over third-place Florida (374).
Texas' evening was highlighted by the 400 free relay squad of seniors Drew Kibler and Cameron Auchinachie, junior Caspar Corbeau and senior Daniel Krueger who closed out the national meet winning the title with a pool-record time of 2:46.03. It marked the third national title of the week for Kibler, who was also a part of the championship 800 free relay and the winner of the 200 free.
Prior to that, sophomore David Johnston opened the evening session earning All-America honors in the 1650 free, finishing fifth with a time of 15:33.61, while freshman Luke Hobson placed 16th in the event with a time of 14:52.40.
Carson Foster followed with a silver-medal performance in the 200 back, taking second with a time of 1:38.77 for the sophomore's third individual All-American performance of the week.
In the 100 free, Kibler paced the Longhorns with a sixth-place finish with a personal-best time of 41.33. Krueger finished eighth with a time of 41.62, collecting his fourth All-American honor in the event, while Auchinachie tied for 11th after touching the wall at 41.72.
Corbeau earned All-American honors in the 200 breast for the third time, placing sixth in 1:50.79, and junior Jake Foster posted a 200 breast time of 1:51.82 and placed 12th.
On the platform, junior Andrew Harness finished 13th overall after taking fifth in the consolation final with 376.20 points.
