The current No. 1 player in the world is the third former Longhorn to claim the Green Jacket and sixth to win a Major championship.
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Former University of Texas star Scottie Scheffler used a final-round 1-under-par 71 to post a three-stroke victory at The Masters Tournament on Sunday afternoon at historic Augusta National Golf Club. With the victory, Scheffler becomes the third former Longhorn to win The Masters, joining two-time champion Ben Crenshaw (1984 and 1995) and Jordan Spieth (2015).
Scheffler is now the sixth former Longhorn to win a Major championship. He joins Crenshaw (1984 and 1995 The Masters), Tom Kite (1992 U.S. Open), Mark Brooks (1996 PGA Championship), Justin Leonard (1997 The Open) and Jordan Spieth (2015 The Masters, 2015 U.S. Open and 2017 The Open).
Scheffler, who holds the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking, recorded his fourth PGA TOUR victory in his last six starts with the win. He carded a 72-hole score of 10-under-par 278 (69-67-71-71) to win The Masters by three strokes over runner-up Rory McIlroy at 7-under 281 (73-73-71-64).
Scheffler became the fifth golfer to enter Augusta National ranked No. 1 in the world and go on to win The Masters, joining Ian Woosnam (1991), Fred Couples (1992), Tiger Woods (2001 and 2002) and Dustin Johnson (2020). He also is just the second golfer ever and first since Arnold Palmer in 1960 to win four events on the PGA TOUR including The Masters in such a short span to start a season. The 57-day span of Scheffler's four victories marks the shortest stretch for a first-to-fourth victory in PGA TOUR history.
Scheffler previously claimed wins this season at the WM Phoenix Open on Feb. 13, the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard on March 6 and the WGC – Dell Technologies Match Play Championship on March 27.
Scheffler is one of 17 different former Longhorns to claim a win on the PGA TOUR. Those 17 individuals have now combined to capture 95 all-time PGA TOUR victories.
