Track and Field Sweeps Big 12 Performer and Coach of the Year Awards

IRVING, Texas – No. 1/1 Texas track and field swept the Big 12 Performer and Coach of the Year honors on Wednesday.
Julien Alfred was named the Big 12 Women's Performer of the Year after an electric outdoor season. Leaving the best for last at the conference meet, Alfred ran the third-fastest time in NCAA history in the 100m prelims with a time of 10.81 seconds. It broke a 31-year Texas record and leads the NCAA. Along with her top individual time, Alfred is the opening leg of the NCAA-leading 4x100 relay that set the fifth-fastest time in collegiate history at 42.35.

Micaiah Harris earned Big 12 Men's Performer of the Year honors after sweeping the Big 12 100 and 200-meter races, becoming the second men's high point scorer from Texas. He now leads the Big 12 in both events, including an NCAA-leading time of 20.39 in the 200m. Harris became the first Texas sprinter to sweep the two events at conference since Johnny Lam Jones won the 100-yards and 220-yards at the 1977 Southwest Conference Championships and the first 100m champion since Jamaal Charles in 2006.

Edrick Floréal swept the coach of the year awards for after leading the Longhorns to a second-consecutive sweep at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships. Texas has now won all four conference meets this season, while Texas has totaled 11 in four seasons under Floréal. The sweep was the sixth time in school history.
