Texas Ex Will Licon is the third Longhorn to earn a victory through the first two days of competition.
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – Texas Swimming tallied four top-five results including a victory by former Longhorn Will Licon in the 100m breaststroke on the second day of the 2021-2022 TYR Pro Swim Series at the Marguerite Aquatics Center on Thursday.
Licon won the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:01.46, defeating runner-up Brandon Fischer, who touched the wall at 1:01.79, while Ethan Hansen placed third in 1:03.59.
"It was right around what I was at [the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming]," Licon said. "I got back into the swing of training pretty good and trying to get better. [Trials] was a rough meet for sure so just trying to pick a few things apart and do little things right right now."
Licon's victory gave the Longhorns three wins through the first two days of competition, adding to Erica Sullivan and David Johnston's respective triumphs in the women's and men's 1500m freestyle on Wednesday.
Johnston raced in his second A Final in as many days, taking sixth in the 200m butterfly with a time of 2:03.95.
The women's day was highlighted by Kyla Leibel's fourth-place finish in the 100m freestyle in 55.94.
Channing Hanley placed fifth in the 100-meter breaststroke, cutting a half-second off of her pervious personal-best with a time of 1:11.22.
Racing resumes on Friday with the 200m freestyle, 200m backstroke, 400m IM and 100m butterfly. The competition runs through Saturday and will feature daily prelims, beginning at 9 a.m. PT, and nightly finals beginning at 5 p.m. PT.
