AUSTIN, Texas – Coming off a June title-winning run at the Sud Ladies Cup in Aubagne, France, rising Texas sophomore forward Trinity Byars has been named to the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team for the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup to be contested from Aug. 10-28 in Costa Rica.
The Red, White & Blue will play in Group D against Ghana (Aug. 11), Netherlands (Aug. 14) and Japan (Aug. 17) before potentially moving on to the knockout rounds.
Byars is one of three selected U.S. players to own previous World Cup experience after having participated as the youngest member of the American roster at the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Uruguay.
The Richardson, Texas, native has long been a stalwart player on U.S. Youth National Teams from the U-14 through U-20 levels. Back in June, Byars was the top scorer (three goals) while helping power the U.S. to the Sud Ladies Cup title with a 2-0-1 mark. She was also a part of Team USA's dominant March run through the CONCACAF U-20 Women's Championship in the Dominican Republic.
A 2021 All-Big 12 Conference and United Soccer Coaches All-Region selection, Byars exploded offensively last fall to lead the Longhorns with 12 goals (third in the Big 12) to go with 10 assists for a squad-best 34 total points (tied for second in the Big 12). Along the way, she established a new program record by scoring in six consecutive matches from Sept. 12-30 and put up the second-longest point-scoring streak in school history by totaling at least one point in eight straight contests (Sept. 12-Oct. 8).
