Two Longhorns claim medals at the World Championships.
EUGENE, Ore. - After 10 days of competition at the 2022 World Championships, two Longhorns made their way to the podium while others finished in the top-10 in the world.
After Ryan Crouser took his first gold medal at the World Championships in the shot put and Kennedy Simon helped Team USA finish with a bronze medal in the mixed 4x400 relay, the Longhorns continued to perform on the world's biggest stage.

Leo Neugebauer and Ashtin Zamzow competed in the multis and finished the grueling two-day competition amongst the best. Neugebauer, the 2022 NCAA Runner Up, finished 10th in the world representing Germany in the decathlon with the No. 5 performance in Texas history scoring 8,182 points. He finished as the second-best collegian in the event, behind the NCAA Champion Ayden Owens. Neugebauer set a personal-best at the NCAAs with a score of 8,362 points (No. 2 all-time in Texas history) and now holds three of the top 10 spots in UT history.

Zamzow, the 2019 NCAA Heptathlon Champion, finished 11th representing USA with 5,974 points.
On the track, Jonathan Jones became the eighth-fastest man in the world in the 400m dash after running a time of 46.13. On his way to the final, Jones ran a time of 44.78 in the semi finals to take possession of the top-10 fastest 400m times in Texas history.

Also in the 400m, Rhasidat Adeleke represented Ireland and became the ninth-fastest in the world. Her time of 50.81 in the semis was just 0.16 off the final and was just her fourth outdoor 400m race of her career. Adeleke finished her competition at Hayward Field after helping Ireland reach the mixed 4x400 final.
I was disappointed to miss the final by one spot but I felt better when I was told that the semis was my 4th 400m outdoor race ever. Along with the fact there's worlds again next year…I'll be back

Our horizontal jumpers also took flight with the world watching as Steffin McCarter finished just outside the podium with a fifth-place finish in the long jump and a jump of 8.04m. The World Championships was just his second competition of the season.

On the women's side, freshman Ackelia Smith continued her breakout season reaching the triple jump finals and finished 12th in the world with a jump of 13.90m while representing Jamaica. She set a personal-best jump in the semis with a mark of 14.36m to break her previous Texas program record she set at the NCAA West Prelims (14.08m). Tyra Gittens represented Trinidad and Tobago in the women's long jump and finished 19th with a jump of 6.44m.
Stacey Ann Williams of Jamaica helped the 4x400 mixed relay finish fifth after running the anchor leg to post a season-best time of 3:12.71. She later ran the opening leg of the 4x400 relay that finished with the third-fastest qualifying time of 3:24.23 to help Jamaica reach the final.
