No. 6 Volleyball survives at TCU in five sets

The Longhorns survived a tough five-set match against TCU in front of a record crowd.
FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 7 Texas Volleyball survived a wild five-set thriller against TCU, 14-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 15-13, to remain unbeaten in Big 12 Conference play on Wednesday night at Schollmaier Arena.
The Longhorns (14-3, 9-0) played in front of another road sell-out record crowd, as TCU had a program record 7,412 fans in attendance.
Madisen Skinner led the Longhorns with 19 kills, while Asjia O'neal and Jenna Wenass both finished with 10 kills apiece. Wenaas came up clutch late in the match, with seven of her 10 kills coming in the fourth and fifth sets.
Ella Swindle had her fourth double-double of the season with 45 assists and 11 digs, while also adding five kills and three blocks.
Emma Halter and Keonilei Akana shared the team lead with 13 digs apiece and Halter added eight assists.
The Longhorns started slow in the first set and were unable to overcome a large deficit, falling 25-14. Texas was held to an .025 hitting percentage while TCU managed to hit .379.
Texas had another slow start to the second set, trailing 8-2 early before eventually using a 10-1 run to take eventually take an 18-14 lead. The Longhorns were able to close out the set 25-22 to tie the match up at one set apiece.
The Longhorns started well in the third set and were up 13-10 before TCU fought back to take the lead. The teams went back-and-forth until TCU finished the set on a 4-1 run to win it 25-21 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
The fourth set started similarly to the third set, with Texas getting out to a 10-7 lead before TCU rallied to take a lead. The Longhorns kept it close throughout and rallied late to win the set 25-23 and send the match to the fifth set.
The Longhorns started strong in the fifth set, taking a 7-4 lead and building out to a 12-8 lead late. Texas had to hold on to close out the match with a 15-13 win in the fifth set.
Texas will return home to Gregory Gymnasium next week to host Baylor on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
