Texas will begin its hunt for a third postseason Big 12 Conference Championship on Monday, Oct. 30
AUSTIN, Texas – Having now concluded its 18-match 2023 regular season schedule, The University of Texas women's soccer program will now turn its attention to the upcoming 2023 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Soccer Championship that begins on Saturday, Oct. 28.
As a result of earning 19 points in nine regular season Big 12 Conference matches this season, Texas will enter the league's postseason conference tournament with the fourth seed behind Texas Tech, BYU and TCU. The Longhorns, as a reward for earning a top-six seed, will bypass the opening round of the tournament and begin play at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 30 with a matchup against fifth-seeded West Virginia in the quarterfinal round.
The winner of UT and WVU will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between the top-seeded and regular season conference champion Red Raiders and winner of the eight seed Baylor and ninth seed Cincinnati.
"Congratulations to Texas Tech for winning the league during the regular season," said Texas women's soccer head coach Angela Kelly. "But now, instead of playing over nine weeks, now it's a period of three matches in a week. It's championship time. It's tournament time. It's win and advance and we've already been prepping our team for that mentality as that was the mindset we had going into (Monday's match against TCU) as well."
Texas will enter its match against West Virginia next week having earned wins in its final two regular season matches by a combined score of 10-3. Over the Longhorns' last seven matches to close out the 2023 regular season, UT finished with a 5-1-1 mark.
