Freshmen lead No. 2 Women's Swim & Dive in first day at No. 1 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 2 women's swim and dive team were led by freshmen standouts in their super final showdown against the defending NCAA champions and No. 1 Virginia. UVA leads 113-75 after 10 scored events.
Senior Bridget O'Neil took care of the first event for Texas, winning the 1-meter with her score of 333.23 points and scoring nine points. Freshman Caroline Kupka was the runner-up with 307.50 points and added four points, while Amanda Stalfort (270.98) and Sarah Carruthers (268.58) added the final three team points.
Freshman Erin Gemmell tallied nine points winning the 200 free with her time of 1:44.64, while fellow freshman Angie Coe secured the final point in the heat with her time of 1:46.51. Gemmell later took first in the 500 free with a time of 4:42.66 and added nine more points for Texas.

Coe later won the open 100 IM with her time of 54.89 and scored nine points, while Berglund added two more team points with a time of 56.91.
Freshman Berit Berglund took her first event in the 100 back, winning the first "Super Final" for the Longhorns and scored five winner-take-all points against Alex Walsh. In the regular lineup, Emma Kern took first with her time of 52.92 and added nine points and Emma Sticklen scored four at 52.95. Campbell Stoll was fifth with her time of 54.44 and scored a point and later scored four in the 100 fly with a time of 53.29.

Ava Longi and Kern tallied the final points from the 100 fly.
Channing Hanley (1:01.98) and Ellie Andrews (1:02.26) scored three team points from the 100 breast.
Saturday's meet returns to the normal dual meet formatting beginning at 8 a.m. CT in diving.
