Texas set to put October and road winning streaks on the line with upcoming trip to Florida
AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas women's soccer program is set to play its first set of back-to-back road matches this season when the Longhorns travel to Florida to face off against UCF at 4:30 PM CT / 5:30 PM ET on Thursday, Oct. 5.
Joe Malfa (play by play) and Ian Carry (analyst) will serve as the television talent for Thursday afternoon's broadcast on ESPNU.
KICKING OFF
- With her next goal, not only will Lexi Missimo become the first student-athlete in program history to record a 15-goal, 15-assist season, the Southlake native will become one of just 18* Division I women's soccer student-athletes to accomplish the feat, per a list compiled by women's soccer athletic communication specialist.
- Stanford's Catarina Macario is the last student-athlete to surpass 15 goals and 15 assists in a single season when the current USWNT standout went for 32 goals, 23 assists throughout the 2019 season.
- *The University of North Alabama's Chloe Roberts recorded two 15-goal, 15-assist seasons (2009, 2011), but the Lions played at the Division II level at the time. UNA did not receive full Division I status until August 2022.
- Of the 18-member list, current Texas head coach Angela Kelly watched five of them during her four-year career at UNC (1991-94).
- 1991: Mia Hamm (32 goals, 33 assists); Tisha Venturini (21, 16)
- 1992: Mia Hamm (26, 16); Kristine Lilly (23, 19)
- 1994: Debbie Keller (15-15)
- Per the same list mentioned above, Lexi Missimo will pass former USWNT great Abby Wambach's single-season assist record (16) at The University of Florida set throughout the 1999 campaign.
- Lexi Missimo (44) will enter Thursday afternoon's match at UCF just two points shy of tying Kelly Wilson's single-season points record of 46 set during the 2004 season.
- Wilson earned 46 points on 16 goals and 14 assists. Missimo currently has 14 goals and 16 assists.
- Lexi Missimo's 14-goal, 16-assist season is the first double-double (10-plus goal, 10-plus assist) for the Longhorns since forward Trinity Byars scored 12 goals and was credited with 10 assists as a true freshman during the 2021 season.
- Trinity Byars (111) and Lexi Missimo (111) are the first pair of Texas women's soccer student-athlete teammates to surpass 100-or-more career points since Kelly Wilson (129) and Kelly McDonald (110) both surpassed the 100-point mark during their four-year careers on the Forty Acres from 2001 to 2004.
- Thursday afternoon's action will mark the first time Texas has played UCF in Orlando since Aug. 19, 2021, when the Longhorns fell to the Golden Knights, 4-0.
- The contest was the last time Texas lost a regular season road match.
- Since that loss, Texas has gone on to post a 10-0-3 mark in regular season road matches.
- It remains the only regular season road loss for Trinity Byars and Lexi Missimo, who are a combined 12-1-3 in regular season road matches since Missimo arrived on the Forty Acres for the Spring 2020 season.
- Texas will be looking for its first-ever win against UCF in the Sunshine State after the two programs tangled in Orlando in 2021 and Tampa in 2014, when the Golden Knights knocked off the Longhorns, 2-0.
- The last time Texas beat UCF occurred on Aug. 24, 2018, when the Longhorns won, 2-1, in overtime in a match played in Chapel Hill, N.C.
- The Longhorns last beat the Golden Knights in within a 90-minute regulation was Aug. 27, 2000, when UT won, 4-0, in Austin.
- Overall, Texas is 2-2-1 all time against UCF dating back to the first-ever meeting between the two programs on Aug. 27, 2000.
- The month of October has been special for The University of Texas women's soccer program as the Longhorns have posted a 13-0-3 mark over their last 16 matches during the 10th month of the calendar year.
- Texas has not lost a match during October since dropping a 2-0 result at then-No. 12 Oklahoma State on Oct. 23, 2020.
