Swimming and Diving finishes competition at 2023 Pan American Games

Jake Foster led the competition with four gold-medal performances.
SANTIAGO, CHILE – The Texas swim and dive teams collected countless medals from the 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games.
Kelly Pash returned to Texas with five medals from the competition, leading the women in the medal count. Pash reached the 200-meter butterfly finals winning Heat 2 with her time of 2:10.68. She later finished third with her time of 2:10.30, while Texas Ex Dakota Luther won gold with her time of 2:09.97.
Pash later won Heat 3 of the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 58.34, the lone competitor to swim sub-59 seconds. She added a silver medal to her name with an even faster time of 57.85 and Bray finished third for bronze with a time of 58.36.
Competing for Team USA, Pash won her first gold medal of the games in the mixed 4x100 medley relay, setting a Panamerican Record with a time of 3:44.71. She set the record with Jake Foster who had a golden performance at the Games this year.
Foster secured four gold medals in his four events, including sweeping the breaststroke events. He swam the fastest time in Heat 3 (1:00.85) of the 100-meter breast and went on to win gold with a time of 59.99. He later won the 200-meter breast in 2:10.71, while freshman Brayden Taivassalo finished second with a time of 2:10.89.
Foster added his final medal in the 4x100 medley relay when USA swam the winning time of 3:33.29 with Foster swimming the second leg.
Pash and Olivia Bray combined to help Team USA reach the 4x200 free relay winning Heat 2 with a time of 8:07.40. Pash later went on to swim the third leg to win her second gold medal with a time of 7:55.26. She added her final medal of the games in the 4x100 medley relay and finished second with a time of 3:59.39.
Coby Carrozza of the men's team won Heat 1 of the 200-meter free with a time of 1:49.10 and won his first gold medal for Team USA with his time of 1:47.37. He later swam the second leg of the 4x200 free relay that won the silver medal with a time of 7:08.06.
Erica Sullivan also competed in the 1500-meter free and finished sixth in the finals with her time of 16:41.21.
On the diving side, Hailey Hernandez brought home two medals from her three events. She began her competition on 1-meter, advancing to the finals after scoring 248.35 points and a fifth-place finish. She earned the bronze medal in the finals scoring 261.75. She finished just off the podium on 3-meter with 321.40, just 2.45 points off from another bronze medal.
Hernandez paired with Jordan Skilken on the synchronized 3-meter event and finished third with 279.06 points. Skilken also finished sixth on the 10-meter with 277.80 points in her first international competition.
Texas Ex Paola Piñeda took first on the synchronized 3-meter with her partner Arantxa Chavez of Mexico with 285.48 points.
