Soccer preview: NCAA Tournament First Round

Texas set to host a NCAA Tournament match for the second consecutive season, first back-to-back years since 2017-18
AUSTIN, Texas – Six days after winning the 2023 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Soccer Championship, The University of Texas women's soccer program will return to the pitch for its first round NCAA Tournament matchup against Lamar at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, when the two programs will tangle at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Glenn Davis and Jessica Stamp will serve as the Longhorn Network broadcast talent as the play by play and analyst, respectively.
KICKING OFF
- Texas will enter Friday night's matchup against Lamar with a 5-4-0 all-time record in NCAA Tournament matches played in Austin, Texas.
- The five Longhorn victories at home in the NCAA Tournament are three more than the next site, College Station, Texas, where Texas has two wins.
- When she takes the pitch for Friday evening's match, Lexi Missimo (42 goals, 50 assists) will be the first student-athlete since Sam Coffey to have 40-or-more goals and 40-or-more assists in a career.
- Coffey accomplished the feat while at Boston College and Penn State from 2017-18 and 2019-21).
- Missimo is the first Big 12 women's soccer student-athlete to reach the milestone since Nebraska's Brittany Timko (2003-06).
- She also joins Kelly Wilson (44 goals, 41 assists; 2001-04) as the only Texas women's soccer student-athletes to do so.
- With four more points this season, Lexi Missimo will record the 21st season in NCAA history with 71-or-more points.
- Stanford's Catarina Macario was the last to accomplish the feat when she was credited with 87 points in 25 matches throughout the 2019 campaign.
- With a win over the Cardinals on Friday, Texas will have earned its 16th victory on the season, the most in a single season for a Longhorn team since winning 16 throughout the 2007 season.
- The program's single-season mark (18) is held by the 2006 squad.
- The 2023 team is currently tied with 2002, 2004 and 2022 for the third-most wins in the program's single-season history.
- With her next goal, Lexi Missimo will be credited with not only her 25th goal on the season but also her first career goal in the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championships.
- Additionally, Missimo has been credited with one career assist — an Ashlyn Miller goal at the 78' in Texas' 3-1 win over Texas A&M on Nov. 11, 2022 — during the NCAA's postseason tournament.
- Lexi Missimo's 8-for-8 mark in penalty kicks this season gives her the most made penalty kick opportunities not only by a Longhorn women's soccer student-athlete during a single season but also as many as the last five Texas teams (2018-22) combined: 8-9.
- The previous high for made penalty kicks in a single season were four set during the 2003 and 2014 seasons.
- Friday's postseason tournament match between Texas and Lamar will mark the first-ever meeting between the two women's soccer programs.
- The Cardinals will become the 20th different program the Longhorns have played since first appearing in the NCAA Tournament in 2001.
