No. 5 Volleyball sweeps SMU in NCAA Second Round

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 5 Texas Volleyball emphatically swept SMU, 25-16, 25-14, 25-17, in the NCAA Second Round on Friday at Gregory Gymnasium.
The Longhorns (24-4) advance to the NCAA Regional for the 18th-consecutive season, the longest active streak in the country. Texas will wait to learn it's NCAA Regional semifinal opponent. Game times and broadcast information for the NCAA Regional will be announced at a later date.
Texas played an outstanding all-around match, hitting .446 and holding the Mustangs to a .146 hitting percentage.
Madisen Skinner led the way with 21 kills, while hitting .486, and adding six digs, three blocks and two service aces. Jenna Wenaas added 10 kills and hit .421 in the match.
Emma Halter had a career-high four service aces in the match and helped set the tone early with a great service run in the first set. Halter finished with 10 digs and three assists.
Asjia O'Neal led the team with five blocks and had six kills with a .400 hitting percentage. Molly Phillips also added six kills on just 11 swings.
Ella Swindle dished out 37 assists in the sweep and added six digs, two blocks and one kill.
The teams played close early in the first set before Texas used a 6-0 run to grab a 12-7 lead. From there, the Longhorns cruised to a 25-16 win, while hitting .448 in the set. Halter served the Longhorns on the early 6-0 run and finished the set with three service aces. Skinner had six kills on 11 swings to lead Texas.
The Longhorns jumped out to a huge 11-3 lead in the second set and cruised to a 25-13 win, again hitting .448 in the set. Wenaas led the way with seven kills in the set. Texas served extremely tough again in the second set and had four service aces.
Texas closed out the dominant performance with a 25-17 win in the third set. Skinner put the match to bed with 11 kills in the final set.
