Lexi Missimo becomes first Top Drawer Soccer ‘Player of the Year’ in program history
AUSTIN, Texas – The postseason accolades for Lexi Missimo continue to roll onto the Forty Acres as Top Drawer Soccer has selected the Texas midfielder as the publications' Player of the Year following a record-breaking junior season for the Southlake native.
With the recognition, Missimo became the first student-athlete in program history to garner postseason 'Player of the Year' honors from either United Soccer Coaches, Top Drawer Soccer, or College Soccer News since the program's first season in 1993.
Over the course of 24 matches throughout the 2023 season, Missimo became the first women's soccer student-athlete in the Big 12 Conference's history to score 20-or-more goals (26) and be credited with 20-or-more assists (20) during a single season. In 2,131 minutes played this season, Missimo, a United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American, broke The University of Texas' single-season points (72), goals (26), assists (20), shots (126), game-winning goals (126) and penalty kicks (9) marks.
Missimo, who was also a semifinalist for the 2023 Women's Mac Hermann Trophy, led all of NCAA Division I women's soccer in assists per game (0.83), game-winning goals (9), penalty kicks percentage (1.000), points per match (3.00), shots on goal per match (2.92), total assists (20) and total points (72). Her 72 points on the season were tied for the 15th-most in a single season in Division I women's soccer history.
Missimo will enter her 2024 campaign as the active leader among NCAA Division I women's soccer student-athletes in career assists per match (0.77), career points (139), career points per match (2.11) and career assists (51).
Sparked by Missimo's on-the-pitch performance, the midfielder helped the Longhorns match its program's best finish by making an appearance in the third round of the 2023 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship after Texas won its third postseason Big 12 tournament championship over then-No. 6 BYU.
