No. 5 Men's Swimming and Diving sweeps Big 12 weekly honors

Texas swept the conference honors for the fifth time this season.
IRVING, Texas – No. 5 Men's Swimming and Diving swpet the Big 12 Conference weekly awards, the league announced on Wednesday. The Longhorns earned all three weekly honors for the fifth time this season.
Luke Hobson earned his first career Big 12 Swimmer of the Week accolade and the fourth conference weekly honor. The sophomore tallied two victories on Friday in the Longhorns' 181-83 win over SMU, establishing career bests in each. Hobson started off with a win in the 100 free, swimming a B-standard 42.58 and touching the wall 1.12 seconds ahead of the runner-up. A native of Reno, Nevada, he followed that with a victory in the 100 fly, clocking 47.74 for the win.
Freshman Nick Harris notched his fourth Diver of the Week accolade of the season after sweeping the springboard events. The Chester Springs, Pa. opened the meet scoring 402.30 points on 3-meter, defeating runner-up and teammate Noah Duperre by 1.97 points. Harris added a second victory on 1-meter with 379.80 points winning by 17.7 points over Duperre. Harris' efforts helped lead Texas to a sweep of both springboards over the Mustangs.
Spencer Aurnou-Rhees earned Newcomer of the Week honors for the second-straight week after the freshman posted one victory and two top-four results in Texas' win over SMU. His meet was highlighted by a win in the 200 free, clocking a personal-best and B-standard time of 1:36.13. A native of Bexley, Ohio, he added a sixth-place performance in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:02.77, then closed out his day placing fourth in the 200 IM, swimming a 1:46.97. At The Sterkel Classic on Saturday, Aurnou-Rhees had the top time trial time in the 400 IM, clocking 3:52.11 to finish over two seconds ahead of the runner up.
Next up, Texas will host the Big 12 Championship at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, Feb. 22-25.
