Maas named to Fred Haskins Award first spring watch list

Freshman Christiaan Maas is one of 15 players named to list for nation’s top collegiate men’s golfer.
COLUMBUS, Ga. — University of Texas Men's Golf freshman Christiaan Maas has been named to the first spring watch list for the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel, the Haskins Foundation announced Friday morning. Maas is one of 15 players named to the first spring list for the annual award which honors the top men's collegiate golfer.
Maas has played in each of UT's first eight events this season and leads the team with a 70.06 stroke average. He is currently No. 5 in the most recent GolfStat national individual rankings and No. 20 in the latest World Amateur Golf Rankings (March 8). During his six stroke-play tournament appearances, Maas has registered three top-five and six top-20 individual finishes.
He posted a collegiate-best individual runner-up finish at the Southern Highlands Collegiate (Feb. 26-28) with a 10-under-par 206 (66-69-71). Maas earlier recorded a tie for third place at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 3-4) at 6-under-par 204 (70-67-67) and a tie for fifth at the Southwestern Invitational (Jan. 30-Feb. 1) at 4-under-par 212 (68-70-74). He has shot par or better in 12 of his 16 stroke-play rounds this season, including six rounds in the 60s.
Celebrating its 53rd year, the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel has been given to players who have captured 33 major championships and more than 400 professional tournament titles around the world. The Fred Haskins Award is the oldest individual college golf award and the only award to be voted on by players, coaches, golf SID's and select golf media. Golf Channel and Golfweek are media partners for the Fred Haskins Award.
