AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1 Texas women's track short sprinter Julien Alfred has been named the Big 12 Women's Indoor Performer of the Year for the second time in her career.
Alfred, who won the shorts sprints double at the conference meet, has rewritten the 60m dash collegiate record books this season. The St. Lucia native now holds the seven fastest times in NCAA history after running the collegiate record time of 6.97 seconds in the finals. She became the first collegian and youngest-ever female to run under seven seconds.
After her record-setting 60 time, she went on to defend her 200 title with the NCAA-leading time of 22.26. Alfred is now qualified for the 60, 200 and the 4x400 for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Alfred won the award for the first time during the 2020 season and becomes the eighth overall Longhorn to win the award.
