Longhorns have record number of Academic All-Americans for Men’s Swim & Dive

A historic four UT standouts earn the honor with Coby Carrozza, Carson Foster and Jake Foster named to first team and Noah Duperre tabbed second team.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 5 Men's Swimming and Diving is not only in the midst of another highly successful season, they also had a historic number of swimmers and divers honored for their achievements in the pool and diving well as well as the classroom. It was announced on Tuesday that a school record-setting four student-athletes earned Academic All-America recognition by the College Sports Communicators. Coby Carrozza, Carson Foster and Jake Foster were selected First Team and Noah Duperre was tabbed Second Team. Jake Foster was chosen First Team for the second-straight year, while Carson Foster, Carrozza and Duperre were each recognized for the national academic honor for the first time in their careers. All four will compete for the Longhorns at this week's NCAA Championships in Minneapolis.
The four total honorees are the most ever for a Texas program, while the three first-team selections are tied for most with the 1972 Football team. Texas and Stanford tied for the most on this year's squad with four total and three first-team members as well.
Jake Foster is the fifth Longhorn in program history two garner multiple Academic All-American selections and joins Nathan Breazeale and Cory Bowersox as two-time first-team honorees. A senior, he carries a 3.99 grade point average in biology. A member of the U.S. national men's team, he is a six-time All-American and three-time honorable mention All-American. Foster was a member of the 2021 NCAA Championship team and 2022 NCAA runner-up team. The Cincinnati, Ohio native was the 2022 Big 12 Men's Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year and is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection and three-time College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of American (CSCAA) first team Scholar All-American.
Carson Foster is a junior majoring in communication and leadership with a 3.89 grade point average. A product of Cincinnati, Ohio, he is a member of the U.S. national men's team and won gold swimming the second leg of the 4x200-meter free relay at the 2022 World Championships, the first world title in the event for the United States since 2013. He also brought home silver medals in the 200-meter IM and 400-meter IM. A member of the 2021 NCAA Championship team and 2022 NCAA runner-up team, he is a two-time national champion, eight-time All-American and 15-time Big 12 Champion.
Carrozza is a junior who carries a 3.93 grade point average in advertising. An Austin native, he is a member of the U.S. national men's team and won gold as a part of the 4x200-meter free relay at the 2022 World Championships. A part of the 2021 NCAA Championship team and 2022 NCAA runner-up team, he is a one-time All-American, three-time honorable mention All-American and four-time Big 12 Champion. Carrozza won the 800 free relay national championship in 2022 as a member of the quartet that included Carson Foster that set the NCAA, American and U.S. Open records of 6:03.89.
Duperre is a New Albany, Ohio native carrying a 3.96 grade point average in psychology. He is the Big 12 Champion on platform and won silver on 1-meter and 3-meter at the conference meet on the way to earning Big 12 Championship Diver of the Meet accolades. A member of the 2021 NCAA Championship team and 2022 NCAA runner-up team, the junior is one-time All-American and two-time Honorable Mention All-American. Duperre was named a 2021-22 CSCAA first team Scholar All-American and selected to the 2022 Academic All-Big 23 First Team.
All told, 15 student-athletes from Men's Swimming and Diving have been named to the Academic All-America first, second or third teams with a combined 23 total honors in program history.
There are three repeat selections to the 2022-23 Division I Academic All-America® team: Jake Foster, Derek Maas (University of Alabama) and Leon MacAlister (Stanford University). The Division I team boasted a 3.85 average GPA with the first team checking in at 3.87. The 2022-23 academic year marks the first year in which swimming & diving has taken part in sport-specific voting after previously being included among the At-Large contests.
