No. 7 Women’s Golf tied for third place after day one of Big 12 Match Play

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The No. 7 University of Texas women's golf team wrapped up the opening day of the Big 12 Women's Golf Match Play Tournament at Kierland Golf Club on Friday.
Sophie Guo and Bentley Cotton each won three of their four matches on the day. Emily Odwin won two matches and Bohyun Park won two matches and tied another match.
The Longhorns are tied for third with 10.5 team points. Oklahoma State leads with 12 and Baylor has 11.5 points.
The Longhorns started the day with the morning session and matches against No. 23 Oklahoma State and Kansas. Sophie Guo went four up through nine holes on the way to a 4&3 victory. Cotton led three up through four holes but her opponent came back to square the match through 10 holes. Cotton made birdie on the seventh hole to go one up and another birdie on 10 to go two up.
Emily Odwin and Bentley Cotton each won their matches two up against Kansas. Cotton went four up through four in her match. Odwin was tied through 13 and went one up with a birdie on her 14th hole of the round. Park was down four through five holes, but climbed back into the match and was down one through 16. On hole 16, the 17th hole of the match, Park made par and her opponent made bogey for Park to square the match. Both players made four on the last hole to tie the match.
In the afternoon session Texas picked up a 4-1 victory against TCU. Emily Odwin needed 15 holes to win her match 4&3. Bohyun Park built a three up lead through seven holes on the way to a 2&1 win. Park also picked up a 4&3 win in the match against Oklahoma. Sophie Guo was up three through six holes in each of her two afternoon matches and captured two points for the Longhorns.
