No. 7 Women’s Golf advances to Big 12 Match Play championship

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The No. 7 University of Texas women's golf team will play for the first Big 12 women's match play championship after three team victories on Saturday.
The Longhorns secured a 3-2-0 win over No. 12 Baylor and a 3-2-0 win over No. 17 Iowa State in the final matches of pool play in the morning session. Texas finished tied for the second most points after pool play and earned the No. 2 spot in the championship bracket. The Longhorn pulled off a 3-2-0 win over TCU in the semifinal to secure their spot in the championship match.
Texas will take on Kansas in the championship match on Sunday at 9:30 AM CT. Kansas earned the No. 1 spot in the championship bracket and took down Baylor in the other semifinal.
Angela Heo and Bohyun Park each tallied 3-0 records on the day and Bentley Cotton went 2-1. Cotton and Park each have five individual match wins over the first two days of the tournament. Sophie Guo has four wins, Angela Heo has three wins and Emily Odwin has two wins.
Angela Heo turned in a dominant performance for the Longhorns. Heo won 22 holes over the course of her three match wins. Heo got off to a strong start in the morning matches up seven through 12 holes against Iowa State and up three through 12 holes against Baylor. Heo went up five holes through 12 holes in the semifinal against TCU. In that semifinal against TCU Heo made two eagles, giving her three eagles on the day.
Heo played the 2022 Big 12 Player of the Year in the afternoon match. She started with four straight birdies and shot a 29 on the front nine. Heo was nine-under-par through her first 10 holes and had seven birdies and two eagles in a 14 hole stretch. She finished as the highest ranked player in the field in 14 holes.
Bohyun Park went 3-0 on the day. In the semifinal match against TCU, Park was tied through six holes. Park opened up the match starting on the par-five seventh hole where she made birdie to go one up. Park continued her streak with birdies on the eighth and ninth holes to extend her lead to three up. Park would carry her lead all the way until the conclusion of the match.
Bentley Cotton, who won two matches on the day came through in a critical moment for the Longhorns. Against Iowa State in a back and fourth match, Cotton led one up with two holes to play. Cotton won the hole to clinch the match and give Texas a critical point to advance into the championship bracket.
Sophie Guo rebounded from defeats in her morning matches to provide the Longhorn a key point in their semifinal win over TCU. Guo was tied through nine holes of her match and turned it on in the second nine to win three of the next six holes to clinch a point for the Longhorns.
