No. 11 Women’s Golf opens play at NCAA Championships

Texas is tied for 13thplace after the opening round of the NCAA Championships.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Texas women's golf team shot a four-over-par 292 and is tied for 13thplace after the opening round of the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club on Friday.
Freshman Cindy Hsu shot a one-under-par back nine with no bogeys on the way to an even-par 72. Bentley Cotton had a clean card with 18 pars as she also shot an even-par 72. Angela Heo made back-to-back birdies on holes four and five to shoot one-under-par on the front nine and two-over-par 74 for her opening round. Bohyun Park made back-to-back birdies on holes six and seven and carded a two-over-par 74. Sophie Guo rebounded from a six-over-par front nine to make three birdies on the back nine and shoot a five-over-par 77.
Wake Forest leads the championship after an opening nine-under par 279. Oklahoma State (-8), Georgia (-2), South Carolina (-2), New Mexico (-1) and Texas A&M (-1) round out the top five.
The Longhorns are making their seventh straight NCAA Championship appearance and 31st overall NCAA Championship appearance.
Texas will go off hole 10 tomorrow starting at 9:27 a.m. central time with Baylor and Northwestern.
The Lineup
• Bentley Cotton made 18 pars in her opening round. Cotton made a 16-foot par save on the par-4, 415-yard 15th hole. Cotton is T36 on the individual leaderboard.
• Cindy Hsu continued her strong freshman season as she made three birdies on her way to an even-par 72. Hsu was two-under-par over her final 10 holes of her round.
• Bohyun Park made back-to-back birdies on six and seven on her way to a two-over-par 74.
• Angela Heo made back-to-back birdies on four and five and carded three birdies total on her round. Heo made birdie on the 18th hole to shoot a two-over-par 74.
• Sophie Guo carded three birdies over her final five holes and carded a five-over-par 77 for her opening round.
