No. 11 Women’s Golf surges up leaderboard at NCAA Championships

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Texas women's golf team shot their best round in program history for the NCAA Championships to propel them into fourth place on the leaderboard after two rounds on Saturday at Grayhawk Golf Club.
The Longhorns started on hole 10 as their first three players each birdied the hole and they were off and going. Texas made 21 birdies on their round to shoot a 12-under par 276. Texas had three players make birdie on holes one and 10 and four of their five players made birdie on the par-5, seventh hole. The Longhorns started the day tied for 13th place on the team leaderboard and vaulted all the way into fourth place after their record setting round.
Wake Forest leads the tournament at 17-under par, followed by Stanford (-15) and South Carolina (-14). The Longhorns are 8-under par for the tournament and in fourth place.
Angela Heo rose 57 spots up the leaderboard to T9 in the second round with a six-under-par 66 with six birdies and no bogeys. Heo stated on hole 10 and shot five-under-par on her first 10 holes of the round. Sophie Gou rebounded from an opening round 77 to shoot a four-under-par 68. Cindy Hsu shot three-under par on her second nine holes and carded a three-under par 69 for her second round.
The Longhorns will tee off tomorrow starting at 8:32 a.m. central time and will be paired with Texas A&M and Oklahoma State.
Notables
• The 12-under 276 is a program record for 18 holes at an NCAA Championships. It is tied for the 12th best round in program history. It is also tied for the second best team round in NCAA Championship history among all schools.
• Freshman Angela Heo's 6-under par 66 is the best individual round in program history at the NCAA Championships for the Longhorns. It is tied for the sixth-best score relative to par for a round in program history.
• The Longhorns made 21 birdies in their record setting round.
The Lineup
• Angela Heo made six birdies and no bogeys in her record setting six-under par 66. Heo is now T9 on the individual leaderboard.
• Cindy Hsu rose 19 spots up the leaderboard to T17 with her three-under-par 69. Hsu made four birdies in her round including three in her second nine holes.
• Sophie Guo rebounded from an opening round 77 to climb up the leaderboard by 68 spots after her four-under-par 68. Guo birdied her final hole of the day, the par-4, ninth hole.
• Bentley Cotton made three birdied in her round. She rolled in a putt from over 20 feet on the 18th hole on her way to a one-over-par 73.
• Bohyun Park birdied her first hole of the day, the par-4, 10th hole and also birdied the par-5 seventh hole on the way to a two-over-par 74.
