No. 11 Women’s Golf advances to NCAA Match Play quarterfinals

The second-seed Longhorns will face seventh-seed Texas A&M beginning at 8:20 a.m. Central on Tuesday.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — For the third time in the last years the Texas women's golf team has advanced to match play at the NCAA Championships. The Longhorns shot the best final round of stroke play at eight-under-par and finished in second place in stroke play on Monday at Grayhawk Golf Club. With their top-eight finish, the second-seed Longhorns move on to the NCAA Match Play quarterfinals and will face seventh-seed Texas A&M on Tuesday beginning at 8:20 a.m. Central (6:20 a.m. Pacific).
UT has now advanced to NCAA Match Play (final eight teams) in three of the last four seasons (2023, 2021, 2019). The 2020 NCAA Championships were canceled due to COVID.
The Longhorns recorded a 72-hole total of 14-under par 1138 to claim the number two position (292-276-290-280). Texas made 22 birdies as a team in their final round of stroke play. Stanford earned the top seed in Match Play via a score of 19-under par (288-273-290-282). Stanford's Rose Zhang defended her individual title with a 10-under par 278.
Freshman Cindy Hsu fired a one-under par 71 on Monday to finish T10 on the individual leaderboard with a 72-hole total of five-under-par (72-69-71-71). Hsu is the fourth Longhorn since 2000 to finish top-10 at the NCAA Championships and only the second freshman to accomplish the feat over that span.
Sophie Guo and Bohyun Park shot under par on the final day of stroke play. Guo carded a round of three-under-par 69 to finish T21 on the leaderboard at one-under-par for the tournament. Park fired a four-under-par 68 on Monday to finish T31 on the leaderboard at one-over-par.
Other NCAA Match Play quarterfinals on Tuesday will feature No. 1 seed Stanford against No. 8 seed Pepperdine (9:10 a.m. CT), No. 3 seed Wake Forest against No. 6 seed Florida State (8:20 a.m. CT) and No. 4 seed South Carolina against No. 5 seed Southern California (9:10 a.m. CT).
Golf channel will provide live national coverage of Tuesday's quarterfinals from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Central (9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Pacific) and Tuesday's semifinals from 4-8 p.m. Central (2-6 p.m. Pacific). The NCAA Championship match is scheduled for Wednesday, May 24.

• The Longhorns have qualified for match play in three of the last four seasons.
• By making the 15-team cut the Longhorns have made the top 15 at the NCAA Championships for the sixth straight year.
• Texas is one of four programs that advanced to the NCAA Championships in each of the last seven seasons.
• Freshman Cindy Hsu was the top Texas golfer in stroke play at T10. Hsu shot all rounds of stroke play at par or better and has now carded 12 rounds at par or better this season. Hsu finished top-10 in her first two collegiate events, including an eighth place finish at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate in her first event.
• The 12-under 276 in the second round of the NCAA Championships was a program record for 18 holes at an NCAA Championships. It was tied for the 12th best round in program history. It also tied for the second best team round in NCAA Championship history among all schools.
• Freshman Angela Heo's 6-under par 66 was the best individual round in program history at the NCAA Championships for the Longhorns. It tied for the sixth-best score relative to par for a round in program history.
• Texas finished as the best team in the field in par-4 scoring over the four rounds of stroke play.
• Sophie Guo tied for third in the field for most birdies over the four rounds of stroke play with 18. Guo has played in the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club in each of the last three events.
The Lineup
• Cindy Hsu made four birdies on the way to her fourth round at par or better in the NCAA Championships. Hsu put an exclamation point on her round with a birdie on hole 18 to finish it. Hsu finished T10 for the championship.
• Sophie Guo shot a three-under-par 69 on the final day of stroke play. Guo make five birdies on the day including back-to-back birdies on holes seven and eight. Guo finished T21 for the championship.
• Bohyun Park shot her best round of stroke play on Monday with a four-under-par 68. Park was three-under-par on the back nine and made five birdies on the day. Park finished T31 for the championship.
• Bentley Cotton shot an even-par 72 to finish two-over-par and T37 for the championship. Cotton made five birdies on her final round of stroke play.
• Angela Heo turned in a two-over-par 74 for her final round of stroke play. Heo carded three birdies on the day.
