AUSTIN, TX – Following a standout freshman campaign under fifth-year head coach Mike White, Texas' Viviana Martinez has been selected to a Women's National Team (WNT) to compete in the 2023 Japan All-Star Series, USA Softball announced Thursday.

Martinez' appearance with USA Softball's Women's National Team in 2023 will mark the fifth consecutive year a Texas Longhorn softball student-athlete has been selected to represent the United States: Viviana Martinez (2023), Janae Jefferson (2022) and Cat Osterman (2019-21).
In her first season on the Forty Acres, Martinez, a Tolleson, Arizona native, was a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team. She also set the Texas softball program record for RBI in a single season (52) by a first-year student-athlete.
In 61 games played as a true freshman, Martinez slashed .346/.391/.532 in 188 official plate appearances. She was one of just three Longhorns to be credited with 100-or-more (100) total bases while being credited with 65 hits, including 22 extra base hits, and scored 33 runs.
Athletes were selected by the Women's National Team Selection Committee (WNTSC) based on previous and ongoing evaluations at the collegiate levels as well as USA Softball National Teams events, trials and camps.
