Neugebauer named Bowerman semifinalist

Neugebauer makes first appearance on the Watch List.
AUSTIN, Texas – Leo Neugebauer of the Texas men's track and field program was named as a semifinalist for the Bowerman Award on Tuesday afternoon.
The Bowerman Awards is given to the top male and female track and field athlete from the 2022-23 season. Texas' Courtney Okolo is the only Longhorn to ever win the award in 2016.
Tuesday's honor is the first time Neugebauer has appeared the Bowerman Watch List and is just the second male Longhorn to be named to the semifinalist after Ryan Crouser was a two-time semifinalist in 2014 and 2016.
Neugebauer took the world by storm this outdoor season. He began the year off breaking the Texas Relays decathlon record and the UT record with a score of 8,478 points. He later went on to set the world-lead, break the Germany National Record and set the collegiate record with his score of 8,836 points on his way to winning the NCAA title in the decathlon. His performance was the eighth-best performance in world history. Neugbeauer also added a bronze medal at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the heptathlon.
Neugebauer's historic career was capped off by being named the Men's Co-National Field Athlete of the Year.
The Bowerman will name the three finalists on Monday, June 26.
