Luitwieler played for the Texas women's golf team from 2015-19.
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas Women's Golf head coach Ryan Murphy has announced the addition of former UT student-athlete Maddie Luitwieler (pronounced LOOT-wile-er) to the position of Director of Operations/Assistant Coach.
Luitwieler, a native of Katy, Texas, played for the women's golf team at UT from 2015-19 and earned a degree in sport management with a minor in business from The University of Texas.
Since graduation, Luitwieler has been playing professionally on the Epson Tour and the Women's All Pro Tour.
"I'm happy to have Maddie re-joining us here at Texas," head coach Ryan Murphy said. "She brings a wealth of experience to our program having played here from 2015-2019 and four years of professional golf experience. She was a big part of our success while here as a player and will bring an added dimension to our coaching staff with her gregarious personality. Maddie was the perfect fit for the position for many reasons and she has already hit the ground running."
"As a recent former player for Coach Murphy and Coach Kate I understand their vision as well as the culture of the team," Luitwieler said. "I already know most of the girls and I sincerely believe in their talent and potential. I will leverage these relationships for a quick transition onto the team. I am so excited to return to Longhorn Nation and contribute to the program's culture of success at the coaching level. I want to enable each player to be the best they can be, because I know we have the talent to win the National Championship."
As a Longhorn women's golfer, Luitwieler was part of three straight Texas Big 12 conference championships from 2017-19. The Longhorns made the NCAA Champion every year in Luitwieler's career and in 2019 made the quarterfinals of match play after being in first place after the stroke play portion of the NCAA Championship.
In her junior year Luitwieler had a career best finish of T6 at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational. As a senior she added another top-10 with a T8 finish at the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Luitwieler was an Academic All-Big 12 honoree and made the Big 12 Academic Honor Roll every year at Texas.
"I have a strong work ethic, a championship-hungry focus and a passion for golf, especially Longhorn Golf," Luitwieler said. "I believe I can bring a spark to the team. As a player, I brought charisma, fun, positivity and leadership to the team. I loved bringing the team together and seeing the bond we had. I believe that combination of having fun while working hard gave us a competitive edge and was something that contributed to the Longhorns being ranked No. 1 in the country back when I was a player."
