The pair of former Longhorn stars will represent Team USA for the second-straight Ryder Cup.
ROME, Italy — Former University of Texas stars Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth have been selected to the 12-member U.S. Ryder Cup team, captain Zach Johnson announced Tuesday morning. Texas joins the University of California (Max Homa and Collin Morikawa) as the only colleges to produce a pair of U.S. Ryder Cup selections for this year's team.
This marks the second-straight Ryder Cup that the pair of former Longhorns will represent Team USA. Scheffler and Spieth helped the Americans record a dominant 19-9 victory over Team Europe at the 2021 Ryder at Whistling Straits in Haven, Wis.
Scheffler was one of six automatic qualifiers for the United States Ryder Cup Team, joined by Wyndham Clark, Brian Harman, Patrick Cantlay, Max Homa and Xander Schauffele. The automatic qualifiers were the six players who accumulated the most Ryder Cup points over the last two years.
Spieth was one of the six Captain's Picks by Johnson, who also selected Sam Burns, Rickie Fowler, Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas.
The 44th Ryder Cup will take place September 29 through October 1 at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy. The U.S. team will be looking to win a Ryder Cup on European soil for the first time since 1993.
Scheffler, No. 1 in the current Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), will make his second appearance for the U.S. Ryder Cup team. In his Ryder Cup debut in 2021, he posted an impressive 2-0-1 mark in his three matches. Scheffler recorded two wins (WM Phoenix Open and THE PLAYERS Championship) and 17 top-10 finishes on the PGA TOUR in 2023.
Spieth, No. 12 in the current OWGR, will make his fifth appearance for the U.S. Ryder Cup team. He owns an 8-7-3 record for Team USA while competing in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2021. Spieth registered a runner-up effort at the RBC Heritage and seven top-10 finishes on the PGA TOUR in 2023.
