Mia Justus, Texas defense holds West Virginia to just two shots on goal
AUSTIN, Texas – In her first season on the Forty Acres, goalkeeper Mia Justus now finds herself among the best keepers in program history following Texas' 0-0 result against West Virginia on Thursday night.
Justus, an Ohio native who joined the Longhorn program from Florida State during the offseason, has now become one of just seven goalkeepers in program history to be credited with seven-or-more clean sheets in a single season after the 5-foot-9 keeper posted her seventh on the 2023 season against the Mountaineers.
With Justus' accomplishment, the Texas women's soccer program has now had a keeper be credited with seven-or-more clean sheets in a single season in each of the Longhorns' previous four seasons.
It was a rather uneventful match for Justus, though, compared to West Virginia goalkeeper Kayza Massey as Justus was credited with just two saves on two Mountaineer shots on goal — seven total shots — while Massey had a career-high nine saves as the Longhorns fired off 19 shots with nine being on goal.
The Texas offense was a constant threat all evening with eight first-half shots, before adding 11 more throughout the match's second 45-minute stanza. On the other hand, Justus held guide a Longhorn defensive back line that held West Virginia to just three shots in the first half and four more in the second, including a last-second shot with six seconds remaining.
