• BOOKER AWARDS: Freshman Madison Booker became the first Big 12 freshman since 2020 to earn Big 12 Player of the Week honors on Monday. On Tuesday Booker was announced as one of five USBWA national players of the week. This was the second national player of the week honor for Booker this season as she earned the Tamika Catchings national freshman of the week following her 20 point performance in the win over UConn.
• BOOKER ON THE BIG STAGE: Booker has had some of her best games against the best competition this season. Booker scored 20 points to help Texas beat No. 11 UConn on Dec. 3. Against No. 10 Baylor, Booker scored a season-high 25 points and added eight assists and seven rebounds. Last time out in the Longhorns win over TCU Booker scored 21 points and added seven rebounds and six assists. In conference play, Booker is the only player in the country averaging at least 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game while also shooting 49 percent from the field.
• AALIYAH MOORE COMEBACK: Last season Aaliyah Moore tore her ACL and played only 9 games. Moore recorded 18 points and 12 rebounds at Texas Tech and 12 points and five rebounds at West Virginia.
• SHAYLEE GOING OFF: Shaylee Gonzales tied her career-high with six 3-pointers in the Longhorns win over Jackson State on Dec. 27. Gonzales led Texas with 21 points in the game. Gonzales has made 19 three-point field goals over her last seven games and is shooting 19-36 (52.7 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc over those games.
• MUHAMMAD STELLAR SOPHOMORE SEASON: Amina Muhammad has made big strides since her freshman season. After being named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team last year Muhammad hasn't slowed down. She has increased her scoring average from 3.9 points per game to 8.9 points per game. Her field goal percentage has improved from 48 percent to 59.8 percent this season. Against ranked opponents this season, Muhammad is averaging 13.3 points and shooting nearly 70 percent from the field.
• JONES COMING UP BIG: Taylor Jones is back after missing four games with an injury. Jones scored a career-high 27 points and tied a school record by going 11-11 from the field in the Longhorns win over Oral Roberts. Jones also grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds in the game. Jones ranks second in the country in field goal percentage this season at 69 percent.
• THE WIN OVER UCONN: The Longhorns took down UConn for the first time in program history, 80-68 on Dec. 3 in the Jimmy V Women's Classic. Rori Harmon scored 27 points and dished out 13 assists. Harmon became the first player in 25 seasons to tally at least 25 points and 10 assists against UConn. Madison Booker scored 20 points in the game.
• HORNS ON D: Texas was 22-0 when they held an opponent to 59 points or less in the 2022-23 and are 10-0 when doing so this season. The Longhorns rank ninth in the country in turnovers forced per game (23.06) and second in the country in turnover margin (+8.53). 18 times this season Texas has held an opponent to single digits for a quarter. Against No. 24 West Virginia, the Mountaineers were averaging 81.8 points per game coming in and the Longhorns held them to 49 points.
• ON THE BOARDS: The Longhorns have outrebounded their opponent in 15/17 games this season. Texas ranks 10th in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game (16.5). Texas leads second chance points over opponents, 293-105. Texas is giving up just 6.2 second chance points per game this season. UT is +14.5 on the boards.
• WINNING IN PARADISE: The Longhorns went 3-0 in the Virgin Islands to capture the 2023 Paradise Jam Reef Tournament Championship. Rori Harmon was named the tournament MVP as she dished out 15 assists with 0 turnovers. Taylor Jones was also named a Tournament All-Star.
• NO. 1 RECRUITING CLASS: On Nov. 8 the Longhorns signed what ESPN.Com has ranked as the No. 1 recruiting class in the country. The Horns are the only school in the country with two top-10 signees.
• 2023 BIG 12 CHAMPIONS: The Longhorns finished the 2022-23 season with a 26-10 overall record and 14-4 mark in conference play as they claimed the Big 12 regular season championship, their first since 2004. Head Coach Vic Schaefer was named Big 12 Coach of the Year.
• PRESEASON HONORS: Texas point guard Rori Harmon was picked by the conference coaches as the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year and Madison Booker was selected as the Big 12 Preseason Freshman of the Year. Harmon and DeYona Gaston earned spots on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team and Shaylee Gonzales and Aaliyah Moore earned preseason honorable mention All-Big 12 selections.
