• BOOKER AWARDS: Freshman Madison Booker became the first Big 12 freshman since 2020 to earn Big 12 Player of the Week honors on Jan 8. The next day, Booker was announced as one of five USBWA national players of the week. This was the second national player of the week honor for Booker this season as she earned the Tamika Catchings national freshman of the week following her 20 point performance in the win over UConn. This week Booker earned her third Big 12 weekly honor as she was awarded Big 12 Freshman of the Week.
• BOOKER ON THE BIG STAGE: Booker is one of two freshmen in the country with three games of 20+ points against ranked opponents this season. In Big 12 play, Booker is averaging 19.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, 6.0 assists, while shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 88.6 percent from the free-throw line. In Big 12 play, Booker ranks second in league games in scoring, eighth in rebounding and first in assists.
Booker is now eighth on the Longhorns all-time list for assists by a freshman with 96.
• AALIYAH MOORE COMEBACK: Last season Aaliyah Moore tore her ACL and played only nine games. On her 21st birthday Moore scored 17 points on 7-7 shooting from the field in the Longhorns win over Kansas. Moore, a native of Moore, Okla., scored 17 points in the Longhorns last game, in a win at Oklahoma State.
• SHAYLEE GOING OFF: Shaylee Gonzales tied her career-high with six 3-pointers in the Longhorns win over Jackson State on Dec. 27. Gonzales led Texas with 21 points in the game. Gonzales has made 23 three-point field goals over her last 10 games and is shooting 23-45 (51.1 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc over those games. Against Kansas State Gonzales recorded her 200th career 3-point field goal. Gonzales is eight assists away from 500 career assists. Gonzales also has over 2,000 career points and is sixth among all active DI players in career scoring with 2,223 points.
• HORNS ON D: Texas was 22-0 when they held an opponent to 59 points or less in the 2022-23 and are 11-0 when doing so this season. The Longhorns rank 10th in the country in turnovers forced per game (22.35) and second in the country in turnover margin (+7.70). 18 times this season Texas has held an opponent to single digits for a quarter. Against No. 24 West Virginia, the Mountaineers were averaging 81.8 points per game coming in and the Longhorns held them to 49 points. The Longhorns are +15.7 points over opponents per game in points off turnovers.
• ON THE BOARDS: The Longhorns have outrebounded their opponent in 17/20 games this season. Texas ranks 13th in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game (15.9). Texas leads second chance points over opponents, 338-129. Texas is giving up just 6.5 second chance points per game this season. UT is +13.2 on the boards.
• POUNDING THE PAINT: The Longhorns are +18.1 points per game over opponents in points in the paint this season. Texas averages 43.1 paint points per game.
• THE WIN OVER UCONN: The Longhorns took down UConn for the first time in program history, 80-68 on Dec. 3 in the Jimmy V Women's Classic. Rori Harmon scored 27 points and dished out 13 assists. Harmon became the first player in 25 seasons to tally at least 25 points and 10 assists against UConn. Madison Booker scored 20 points in the game.
• WINNING IN PARADISE: The Longhorns went 3-0 in the Virgin Islands to capture the 2023 Paradise Jam Reef Tournament Championship. Rori Harmon was named the tournament MVP as she dished out 15 assists with 0 turnovers. Taylor Jones was also named a Tournament All-Star.
• NO. 1 RECRUITING CLASS: On Nov. 8 the Longhorns signed what ESPN.Com has ranked as the No. 1 recruiting class in the country. The Horns are the only school in the country with two top-10 signees. All three of the Texas signees were announced as nominees for the McDonalds All-America program.
• 2023 BIG 12 CHAMPIONS: The Longhorns finished the 2022-23 season with a 26-10 overall record and 14-4 mark in conference play as they claimed the Big 12 regular season championship, their first since 2004. Head Coach Vic Schaefer was named Big 12 Coach of the Year.
