Austin’s own perform prior to Texas Football’s primetime showdown versus Georgia
AUSTIN, TEXAS – Texas Athletics is thrilled to welcome Austin's esteemed rock ambassadors, Spoon, to Longhorn City Limits presented by Still Austin Whiskey Co. on Saturday, October 19. Spoon will take the stage prior to #1 Texas Football's Southeastern Conference primetime showdown versus the Georgia Bulldogs. Located on the LBJ Lawn, live music will begin at 2 p.m. with DJ Mel followed by Hard Proof. Admission is FREE for Longhorn City Limits concerts all season long.
Founded in Austin in 1993, Spoon have released ten albums to date including a string of five straight top 10 records: Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (2007), Transference (2010), They Want My Soul (2014), Hot Thoughts (2017), and Lucifer on the Sofa (2022). Lucifer on the Sofa earned the band its first-ever GRAMMY nomination (Best Rock Album) and was praised by Rolling Stone as "The best thing they've ever done." Hailed by TIME as "one of the greatest American rock bands", Spoon topped Metacritic's chart as the single most critically acclaimed band of the aughts. In 2019, Spoon released Everything Hits At Once: The Best of Spoon, which was praised by NPR as a "convincing argument for Spoon being one of their era's most distinctive and excellent rock bands." That same year, Fender released the Britt Daniel Signature Telecaster Thinline as part of their artist signature electric guitar series – highlighting the enduring influence of Daniel's precision-punk style that has helped fuel Spoon to become what the Guardian calls 'one of the finest bands of their generation.

"Between our top-5 game and F1 United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas, the sporting world's eyes are all on Austin, Texas, this weekend, and I can't think of a better way to celebrate than by also showcasing some of the very best Austin music here on the Forty Acres."
Following Spoon's performance, fans who do not have tickets for the Texas-Georgia game can watch the game LIVE on the LBJ Lawn.
Entering their 16th year as a band, Hard Proof has established itself as an Austin institution ready to bring the party to the rest of the world. The Austin-based ten-piece collective of musicians known as Hard Proof began by studying the blueprint of Fela Kuti's Africa 70 band, as well as funk and jazz from the whole of sub-Saharan Africa. Founded in 2008, Hard Proof features members of Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, Black Pumas, Cougar, Grupo Fantasma, Spoon, Brownout, the Echocentrics, and several other notable Austin acts.
DJ Mel is one of Texas' most well-rounded and high profiled DJs. Based in Austin with past performances at ACL Music Festival, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Voodoo Festival, the NFL Draft, X-Games, Tour de France, and the NCAA Women's Final Four, DJ Mel also had one of the longest-running DJ weeklies in the US at the legendary Nasty's located in West Campus. In 2014, he was inducted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame.
DJ Mel will get the party started on the LBJ Lawn at 2 p.m. Hard Proof will take the stage at approximately 3:15 p.m. followed by Spoon at 4:30 p.m.
The fan-favorite postgame silent disco will return to LCL on October 19 immediately at the conclusion of the Texas-Georgia game. Featuring three live DJs, fans who attend will receive a pair of wireless headphones and the ability to choose between three different channels.
Fans ages 21-and-up can once again enjoy signature experiences at Longhorn City Limits including the Still Austin Music Lounge. Serving up a full menu of refreshments including the Still Austin Horns Up Bourbon Lemonade on ice, the lounge provides relaxation in a shaded area while enjoying the show. Fans won't want to miss surprises and limited-edition swag curated by Still Austin Whiskey Co, the homegrown grain-to-glass craft distillery using 100% Texas grains.
Also returning to LCL is the Tito's Tailgate located in front of the LBJ Fountain. The area features refreshing Tito's cocktails on tap, shaded views of the stage, and misting stations that provide the perfect spot to hang and stay cool while tailgating in real Texas fashion. Stop by for a chance for exclusive Tito's x Texas bandanas while supplies last!
New this season, Pinkerton's BBQ will be serving up barbecue on the LBJ Lawn on gamedays. Recognized by Texas Monthly as a "Top 50 BBQ Joint" from 2017-2024, this marks Pinkerton's first satellite location in Austin.
Concert goers can also enjoy pregame happy hour pricing featuring select $5 domestic and $6.50 premium beers at Longhorn City Limits.
