The Longhorns’ redshirt sophomore middle blocker picks up third-straight weekly award.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 7 Texas Volleyball's Marianna Singletary has been named the SEC Player of the Week for the second time this season and the Defensive Player of the Week for the third-consecutive week, the league office announced Monday.
Singletary is the first player in league history to be named outright Defensive Player of the Week three-consecutive weeks. Florida's Rhamat Alhassan won at least a share of the Defensive Player of the Week award for three consecutive weeks in 2017 and Lauren Dooley of Florida did the same in 2020.
The middle blocker from Charleston, S.C., tallied 15 total blocks over two wins this past weekend to keep the Longhorns undefeated in conference play. Singletary had four total blocks in Friday's sweep over Arkansas along with four kills and one dig. She then posted 11 total blocks, including two solo stops, in Sunday's four-set win over Georgia and added seven kills on 10 swings.
The Longhorns continue their homestand against Texas A&M on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Gregory Gym.
