No. 7 Volleyball drops five-setter to Texas A&M

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 7 Texas Volleyball came up short in a five-set thriller to Texas A&M, 27-25, 14-25, 25-23, 21-25, 16-18, on Wednesday at Gregory Gymnasium.
The Longhorns (12-4, 7-1) dropped their first conference match of the season and had their nine-match winning streak snapped.
Madisen Skinner had a great match with a season-high 22 kills, while hitting .415. Reagan Rutherford added 13 kills, while hitting .375, and added four blocks.
The Longhorns opened the match with a wild first set win, 27-25, over the Aggies. Texas relied on its block during the opening set with five total blocks. Kahahawai also played a big role in the set with three aces.
Texas A&M bounced back well in the second set and evened the match with a 25-14 win.
The third set was another extremely tight set, with the Longhorns pulling out a narrow 25-23 win to retake the lead in the match. The Longhorns hit .353 during the third set, led by five kills from Rutherford.
The fourth set was similar to the second, as the Aggies jumped out to a big early lead and held on a for a 25-21 win.
The teams traded runs in an epic back-and-forth fifth set and the Longhorns had three match points but were unable to cash in. Texas A&M finished the match on a 3-0 run to secure the win.
The Longhorns will have a short layoff before their next match when they welcome Missouri to Gregory Gym on November 1 at 8 p.m.
