No. 4 Women’s Golf wraps up day one at NB3 Collegiate Match Play

Longhorns earn match play wins over New Mexico State and New Mexico, will play No. 1 Stanford tomorrow.
SANTA ANA PUEBLO, N.M. — The No. 4 Texas Women's Golf team earned a 4.5-0.5 win over New Mexico State and a 5-0 sweep of New Mexico on day one of the NB3 Collegiate Match Play on Tuesday at Twin Warriors Golf Club.
Cindy Hsu was down one through 10 holes in her morning match, but birdied her 11th hole of the day, the par-4 sixth hole and went 1up on the par-5 eighth hole. Lauren Kim made six birdies and an eagle in her match vs. New Mexico State and ended up with a tie. Farah O'Keefe didn't need the last two holes of her match as she won 3&2.
Kim and Marcia Garcia of New Mexico were tied through 16 holes in the afternoon match when Kim made birdie on the par-4 17th hole and secured the win with another birdie on 18. Selina Liao and Rebecca Galasso played a tightly contested match that was also tied through 16. Liao made a long-range putt to win the 17thhole. As the sun set and a golf cart had to be brought out to provide light on 18, Liao nearly holed her bunker shot and won the match 2UP.
Angela Heo (3&2), Cindy Hsu (3&2), and Farah O'Keefe (3&1) also provided wins for Texas to help the Longhorns to a 5-0 sweep over New Mexico.
Texas leads the women's standings with 9.5 points over Stanford with 7.5 points. In the combined men's and women's standings, the Longhorns have a 15-10 lead over Stanford. New Mexico State is next with 8 and New Mexico has 7 points.
The No. 4 Longhorns will go up against No. 1 Stanford tomorrow starting at 12:05 p.m. CT at Twin Warriors Golf Club.
