No. 9 Volleyball falls in five sets to Missouri

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 9 Volleyball dropped its second-straight five-set match, falling to Missouri, 25-21, 19-25, 25-17, 24-26, 10-15, on Friday at Gregory Gymnasium.
The Longhorns (12-5, 7-2) will be back in action against Oklahoma on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Gregory Gym.
Madisen Skinner led the team with 18 kills and posted her third double-double of the season with 12 digs along with three aces. Reagan Rutherford finished with 13 kills, hitting .455 in the match.
Marianna Singletary added 11 kills and five blocks, while Devin Kahahawai contributed 10 kills and four blocks.
The Longhorns grabbed an early lead in the match with a 25-21 win in the opening set. Ayden Ames was solid defensively in the first set with three blocks, helping hold Missouri to an .075 hitting percentage. Skinner led the way offensively with four kills and three digs, while hitting .500.
Missouri stormed out to a big lead in the second set, going up 11-3 before Texas mounted a rally. The Longhorns used a 10-2 run to come all the way back and tie the set at 13-all but Missouri finished the set strong and pulled out a 25-19 win.
The third set was a back-and-forth until almost the midway point when the teams were tied at 13. From that point the Longhorns managed to pull away, starting with a 4-0 run to go up 17-13. Texas hit .472 in the set, their best hitting percentage of the match, and finished the set on a 4-0 run.
Missouri came back and won another back-and-forth set, 26-24, to send the match to the fifth where the Tigers would complete the upset.
