TRINITY, TEXAS —Lauren Kim from The University of Texas women's golfer team has been selected to participate in the 2024 Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship on November 14-16 (Thursday-Saturday) at Whispering Pines Golf Club.
The Spirit Golf Association and Texas Golf Association invite 20 countries from six continents to participate in this tournament. The field of countries is limited to 20 teams, and each team is comprised of two men and two women golfers. The 20 teams are invited based on the men's and women's combined results from the most recent World Amateur Team Championships.
Established in 2001, The Spirit is a biennial event that alternates tournament years with the World Amateur Team Championships. The 80 men's and women's golfers enjoy an Olympic-like experience from the opening/closing ceremonies, international village and competing for golf medals. All players must be official citizens of their country. Each country's National Golf Association/Federation establishes its own selection criteria.
The Spirit International tournament format is 54 holes of best ball competition. Five separate competitions are conducted: International Team (combined best ball of the Men's and Women's teams), Men's Team, Women's Team, Men's Individual and Women's Individual. Gold, silver and bronze commemorative medals are awarded to the top three places in each competition.
Kim will begin her opening round on Thursday at 8:54 a.m. CT on the 10th tee.
Three student-athletes from the Texas men's golf team are also set to participate in the event. Daniel Bennett and Christiaan Maas will compete for South Africa, while Tommy Morrison will represent Team USA.
