Texas looks for first win against Arkansas since 2000
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Texas women's soccer program will look for its third appearance in a conference tournament championship match over the last four seasons when the third-seeded Longhorns take on the second-seeded Arkansas Razorbacks in the semifinals of the 2024 SEC Soccer Tournament in Pensacola, Fla., at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7.
TELEVISION: Mike Watts (play by play) and Jill Loyden (analyst) will call Thursday night's action on the SEC Network with the broadcast also available to stream on the ESPN app.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Thursday night's match between Texas and Arkansas will mark the first between the programs on a neutral site pitch throughout the seven-match series history.
- Texas is looking for its first win over Arkansas since Sept. 7, 2000, when the Longhorns knocked off the Razorbacks, 3-2, in overtime.
- The Longhorns are 3-1-1 all time against the Razorbacks when scoring at least one goal throughout the match.
- Including her 12-season career as the head coach of Tennessee, Thursday evening will mark the first time Angela Kelly has coached against Arkansas in the SEC Soccer Tournament.
KICKING OFF:
- Texas' next win will mark the 150th for head coach Angela Kelly during her time at the helm of the Longhorns.
- Kelly, who is in her 13th season as head coach on the Forty Acres, will enter Thursday night's match with a 149-77-34 (.638) record as the head coach at UT.
- If Lexi Missimo scores a goal or is credited with an assist against Arkansas on Thursday, it would mark the 10th consecutive match the senior midfielder has recorded at least one point, becoming the first student-athlete to achieve the feat.
- If fourth-year senior Holly Ward takes the pitch against the Razorbacks on Thursday night, the Vancouver, Canadian native will appear in her 87th career match at Texas, tying Erica Campanelli (2007-10), Kelsey Carpenter (2004-07), Karen Haight (2003-06) and Carrie Schmit (2003-06) for ninth on the program's career matches played list.
- If second-year Longhorn goalkeeper Mia Justus turns in a clean sheet against the second-seeded Arkansas Razorbacks during Thursday's semifinal match, it would be the Ohio native's 12th clean sheet this season, setting a new program single-season record.
- A win for Texas would give the Longhorns its third appearance a conference's postseason tournament championship match over the last four seasons (2021, 2023, 2024).
- A win for the Longhorns would be the 15th on the season for UT, marking the third consecutive season Texas has won 15-or-more games in a single season, a streak that hasn't been accomplished in program history.
- An Angela Kelly-led soccer squad is 3-2-2 all time in SEC Soccer Tournament semifinal matches.
- Of those seven all-time semifinal matches, Kelly has guided her team to the tournament's championship match on five occasions.
