Neugebauer sets UT heptathlon record with NCAA-leading score

Nina Ndubuisi moves to No. 2 on shot put all-time performer list
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Leo Neugebauer posted the NCAA-leading score in the heptathlon on the final day of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic for the No. 7/18 Texas track and field team.
The six-time All-American scored 6,219 points to improve his mark on the NCAA list at No. 5 and improve his Texas program record. Neugebauer broke the record last season at the NCAA Championships with a score of 6,214 points.
Heading into the final three events, Neugebauer led the competition with 3,643 points. He began day two of the competition running the 60-meter hurdles in 8.25 seconds, cleared 4.80m (15-9) in pole vault and ran the 1,000-meter in 2:46.10. Freshman Brock Lewis finished eighth overall with a score of 5,087 points.
In the ring, freshman Nina Ndubuisi won the women's shot put off her fifth throw of 18.08m (59-4). Ndubuisi's throw moved her to No. 2 on the UT All-Time Performer list behind Texas Ex and Olympic gold medalist Michelle Carter's throw of 18.56m (60-10.75). Ndubuisi is the only athlete since Carter to break the top-10 performance list for Texas. Junior Chrystal Herpin finished third with her throw of 16.82m (55-2.25), while Marilyn Nwora finished fourth at 16.73m (54-10.75).
Back on the track, Brian Herron moved to No. 3 on the All-Time Performer list with his second-place finish in the 400-meter at 45.54. The time also ranks as the third-fastest time in UT history behind Zack Bilderback (45.27) from 2016 and Jonathan Jones (45.38) in 2019. Junior Logan Popelka also broke into the top-10 performer list at No. 9 with his time of 46.56.
Elijah Mosley (46.73) finished fifth, Chris Brinkley (46.84) sixth and John Rutledge (47.26) finished eighth.
The women's 400-meter was led by Texas Exes Rhasidat Adeleke (51.12) and Lanae Tava-Thomas (51.67). Sophomore Dejanea Oakley finished third at 52.53, while Ziyah Holman finished fourth in 52.72 and Lauren Lewis finished sixth in 54.57.
Marcellus Moore finished as the runner-up in the 60-meter dash at 6.60 and Nolton Shelvin finished fourth in 6.62 seconds. Julien Alfred posted her second world-leading time of the weekend in the 60m with her time of 7.04, while Kenondra Davis finished sixth in 7.39. Long jump and triple jump star Ackelia Smith also ran 7.22 in the prelims.
