No. 16 Baseball’s Johnson named to preseason Golden Spikes Award watch list

The Longhorns' ace was one of 55 players named to the watch list for the award honoring the nation’s top amateur baseball player.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 16 Texas Baseball's Lebarron Johnson Jr. is one of 55 players named to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List, the organization announced Friday. The Golden Spikes Award is given annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country.
Johnson, who was also named the Big 12 Preseason Pitcher of the Year, finished last season with an 8-4 record and a 2.91 ERA, highlighted by a one-run shutout of Miami in the second game of the NCAA Coral Gables Regional. The economics major held opponents to a .231 batting average in his redshirt sophomore season, and his 86.2 innings pitched ranked fourth in the Big 12.
The Jacksonville, Fla. Product, has struck out 119 batters in 103.2 career innings pitched. Johnson's career ERA is 2.95 and his opponents batting average is just .225.
