No. 9 Men’s Swim & Dive wins Big 12 Championship

Texas won 19 of 22 events for its 28th consecutive Big 12 title and 45th-straight conference championship overall.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – No. 9 Texas Men's Swimming & Diving won the 2024 Big 12 Conference Championship on Saturday at The Aquatic Center at Mylan Park. Texas won 19 of the 22 events to claim the Big 12 Conference title for the 28th-straight year and extend its streak of consecutive conference league title to 45, all under legendary head coach Eddie Reese.

The current streak dates back to the 1980 Southwest Conference championship. All told, the Longhorns have recorded a total of 66 conference titles (38 Southwest Conference, 28 Big 12 Conference).

Freshmen led the way on the final day of competition for Texas in the Big 12 Conference, earning victories in four of the five individual events won by the Longhorns, while also comprising half of the championship squad for the 400 free relay.
Will Modglin kicked things off for the Longhorns, winning the 200 back with a swim of 1:39.73, the freshman's third individual gold medal of the meet. He was joined in the top-three by Chris O'Connor, who won bronze in 1:43.12, while freshman Logan Walker placed fifth with a season-best swim of 1:45.02.
Nate Germonprez followed with his first career individual conference crown, winning the 100 free in a career-best 42.24. It marked his third top-two performance of the meet, after the freshman finished as the runner-up in the 200 IM and 200 free. Fellow freshman Camden Taylor placed third in 42.53, while senior Coby Carrozza took fourth in 42.83.
Sophomore Alec Enyeart added a victory in the 1650 free after touching the wall in a season-best 14:58.71 for his first career conference crown, winning by over 16 seconds. Sasha Lyubavskiy placed fifth for the Longhorns in 15:28.92.
Texas tallied a one-two finish in the 200 breast, as freshman Brayden Taivassalo collected his first career conference title with a swim of 1:53.28, surging ahead of teammate and 100 breast champion Will Scholtz in the final 10 meters. Scholtz finished with the runner-up result in 1:53.70.
In the diving well, freshman Tanner Braunton took the crown on platform, tallying 452.20 for the victory. Defending champion Noah Duperre placed third for the Longhorns with 390.45 points, while freshman Pierce Brooke scored 355.35 points to place sixth.
Texas wrapped up the meet with a victory in the 400 free relay, as the quartet of Germonprez, Carrozza, Cole Crane and Taylor combined for a season-best time of 2:48.89.
